I walk with my father's heart.
This August 9th at Kapi'olani Park marks nearly 25 years of showing up for the American Heart Association Walk. But since July 15, 2019, it’s become personal in a whole new way — my dad passed from cardiac arrest that day. I walk for him. I walk for myself. I walk because I carry his heart, both in the beautiful ways and in the ways that need support.
In late 2023, I ended up in the ER with supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) — a condition where the heart fires electrical signals from places it shouldn’t, creating dangerously fast rhythms. Not fatal on its own, but if left untreated, it can be. The heart is complicated like that. So is grief. So is legacy. I walk to keep all of it moving forward. Join me. Support. Show up. Walk.
