10 years ago now we lost my amazing mom to heart failure. It was such a painful experience for myself and our loved ones that I found it important to bring awareness to the condition and its preventative measures, in hopes that others might be able to avoid going through this themselves. Thus, the Sheila A. Jackson Foundation was formed.

Heart failure generally stems from one of multiple forms of heart disease. Heart disease, also known as cardiovascular disease, is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States and worldwide.

You can significantly reduce your risk of heart disease by adopting a heart-healthy lifestyle. This includes getting regular physical activity, controlling your cholesterol and blood pressure, managing blood sugar, and quitting smoking.
