Monday March 3rd 2025 our lives catastrophicly changed. We were crushed when Big Mike suffered a severe heart attack after coming home from work. It was a regular day and there were no warnings anything was wrong. CPR was performed immediately and he was rushed to Beth Israel Hospital in Newark. We spent the next excruciating 5 days hoping for a miracle that did not come. Mike gained his wings Saturday March 8th and our lives will never be the same.
We decided as a family to help Mikes name live on with support of the American Heart Association. We want his legacy to mean something. Assisting other families to hopefully avoid our experience and educate everyone about heart disease and allow them to continue to support communities teaching as many people CPR as possible as it will give many others a chance to save others in heart distress.
9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed. But we can change this.
Cardiac arrests happen at work, in homes, on athletic fields and in neighborhoods everywhere, and the readiness of our community can be the difference between life and death.
It's time to unite, take action, and save lives. Every walker who joins, every dollar donated, means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone.
I Walk to Save Lives. Help me reach my goal today by joining our team or donating towards our goal. Together, we can turn bystanders into lifesavers.
