We are walking in remembrance of someone who was extremely beautiful, talented, intelligent, funny, kind and just truly impacted everyone she met.
Our cousin, Essynce Symone Mitchell passed away on March 17th 2025 from Idiopathic Dilated Cardiomyopathy at the young age of 25.
In the words of her mother, this disease was not something that any of our family knew of or were educated on. No one knew she had this condition.
She was always a very healthy woman, participating in cheer and stunt in college and continuing to work out after she graduated college. She was an extremely active person with her students that she helped counsel and participating in her home town's NBA basketball team as an entertainer. As well as, she was pursing her Master's degree. So her passing was definitely one that shocked us all.
We want to share Essynce's legacy and story in hopes to draw in awareness for Cardiomyopathy. She was an incredible woman who was honored by the colleges she attended and worked for with foundations in her name. She impacted those around her and was a major advocate for mental and physical health.
We want for others to remember to have their heart checked often with their doctor. Even if you do not experience any symptoms.
Because Essynce who was a daughter, sister, cousin, niece, aunt and friend-did not have symptoms. We wish we could have caught this early on but we want to continue to honor her by speaking her name and her story so everyone can know who she was and how important it is to take care of your heart.
We miss her every day and this walk is for you Essynce.
