Last year, through a surgical mishap for an ablation to stop my a fibrillation, my tricuspid valve was torn. Months of tests indicated the tear was bad enough to require open-heart surgery for repair. Fortunately, I recovered nicely. A few months later, we discovered my husband had majory artery blockage and needed open-heart surgery immediately. He is still recovering from that and the stent that followed.
Neither of us had the typical clutch-your-chest heart attack you see on TV. His only symptom was shortness of breath while climing the stairs! We were fortunate to have our heart situations rectified without having that obvious heart scenario occurring. Many who have cardiac disease are not so lucky.
Nine out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed. But we can change this.
Cardiac arrests happen at work, in homes, on athletic fields and in neighborhoods everywhere, and the readiness of our community can be the difference between life and death.
It's time to unite, take action, and save lives. Every dollar donated, means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone. Together, we can turn bystanders into lifesavers.
I Walk to Save Lives. Help me reach my goal today. Thank you!
