In June 2024, our family experienced the heartbreaking loss of someone incredibly special. Carl suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while driving, which led to a tragic automobile accident. He was a devoted husband, father, stepfather, Papa, and friend - truly the life of every gathering, with a gift for making everyone around him smile.

In his memory, our family has chosen to participate in the Birmingham Heart Walk. We also walk in honor of my sister, Karli. In July 2025, Karli began experiencing severe cardiac-related symptoms and lost consciousness while driving. At the time, doctors were uncertain of the cause and recommended placing an internal heart monitor, also known as a loop recorder, as a precaution.

What was expected to be a routine procedure quickly became life-threatening when Karli's heart stopped during the placement. After being stabilized, she was transferred to UAB Hospital, where a pacemaker was implanted. Today, we are grateful that Karli has made a full recovery and is once again living life to the fullest.
