Approximately 40,000 babies are born every single year with congenital heart disease. About 25% of those babies will need surgery within the first year of life to survive. My daughter was born with one of the most severe forms of congenital heart disease, tricuspid atresia. Like many other children born with CHD, she was born with several other CHD's in addition to her tricuspid atresia. She also has double outlet right ventricle, large VSD, an ASD, pulmonary stenosis, coarctation of her aorta, hypoplastic right ventricle and a bicuspid pulmonary valve. Being that her heart defect is so complex, she had to go down the three state single ventricle palliative surgical path.
While Reya is now thriving, she is a constant reminder of how hard these kids have to fight. My duty as her mother is to help raise awareness for congenital heart disease, to help find a cure, and to advocate for all heart children around the world for access to new medical advancements that could not only increase their lifespans but also their quality of life.
Please help me do that my supporting our walk!
