I'm participating in the 2026 Wall Street Run & Heart Walk with the BNY Analyst Team because I believe in doing what we can now - for ourselves, and for those who can't.
I run for my grandfather, who passed away from a heart attack long before he had the chance to see me grow up. His loss shaped my understanding of how fragile life can be and how critical it is to support research that saves families from similar pain.
I also run as a Latino. For our community, stroke and heart disease aren't just "health topics" - they show up in family histories. The American Stroke Association notes that stroke is the No. 4 cause of death for Hispanic men and No. 3 for Hispanic women in the U.S. [1] And the American Heart Association's national data reports that about 3.5% of Hispanic men and 3.8% of Hispanic women (adults 20+) have previously had a stroke. [2] Those numbers represent real people, real families, and real futures that can be protected through prevention, education, and research.
And I run as an office worker who spends too many hours behind a screen. I know firsthand how modern work can quietly increase the risk factors we rarely think about.
So I'm showing up. I'm running for awareness, for prevention, for science, and for equity. I'm running to honor my grandfather and to help ensure more families get the time with their loved ones that mine never had.
If you're able, please support my campaign. Every step we take - and every dollar we raise - moves us closer to a world with fewer heart attacks, fewer strokes, and more years with the people we love.
