In 2018, my mom had a heart attack. She required double bypass surgery and a blood transfusion. I remember crying while asking the doctor in the middle of the night why it matters how someone lives if they can just have a heart attack at their healthiest. She spent a week in ICU and in time, finally came home.
My mom had also been diagnosed with A-Fib, too. Yet, routine appointments and medical treatments made it possible for her to make the trip to York, Maine the following summer. She loved every moment.
My mom meticulously followed medical advice and practiced even healthier living. If it weren't for the advancement of surgery and treatment, I wouldn't have been blessed with hundreds of more of her hugs for five more years.
I say my mom's name today to bring awareness to the people behind the stories. I walk to honor my mom, Doris, and the strength she showed.
I Walk to Save Lives. Help me reach my goal today.
