Year seven for Team Carter. For those who may not know, Carter was diagnosed with aortic stenosis and ascending aortic enlargement around two months old. It is a congenital heart defect that affects 1% of babies and happens within the first 8 weeks of development.
After being sent to get an echo to rule out a heart murmur, we learned of Carter’s defect and have since had continued annual screenings. Originally, Carter was on a surgery consult at 4 months old but has since amazed his doctors with significant imaging & testing improvements. With his doctors initial goals to get him to a year old without surgery, Carter has continued to crush those expectations, maintaining a less moderate defect range.
Surgery can vary from a simple catheter, to a valve replacement, to an open heart surgery. Research is constantly being done to try and find less invasive procedures to help maintain a normal, healthy life and even to participate in sports.
My goal this year is to raise $250.00. Your donation will fund groundbreaking research that keeps hearts beating and helps people have longer, healthier lives
