In June of 2025, I was admitted to the hospital with congestive heart failure. Today, thanks to expert medical care, advanced treatment options and lifestyle modifications, I'm proud to say that I'm living my best life!
After my release, I wore an external defibrillator vest for three months while I was considered at high risk of sudden cardiac death. I hated wearing that thing everywhere, including to bed. I called it "my albatross." Happily, I never needed it, but I was fortunate to have that safety net.
Most cardiac arrest victims do not have such an automatic lifeline. 9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed. But we can change this. Every dollar donated means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone. Together, we can turn bystanders into lifesavers.
