Heart disease has never been just a statistic for me — it has been my story.
Hypertension has run through my family for as long as I can remember, shaping lives and stealing precious moments. I knew I needed to be vigilant. What I didn’t know was how personal this fight would become.
Then came the diagnosis: cardiomyopathy. Then the discovery that I had survived a silent stroke — no dramatic symptoms, no warning — just quiet evidence that my heart had been fighting a battle without me. And when doctors determined I was at risk for sudden cardiac death, I received an ICD (implantable cardioverter defibrillator) — a device that literally stands guard over my heartbeat every day.
I am here by the grace of God and the life-saving research championed by the American Heart Association.
That is my why.
I walk because I was given another chance. I walk because cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death among women — and too many women don’t know it. I walk because awareness saves lives, prevention is powerful, and someone you love may be at risk right now.
To every woman reading this: don’t ignore your body. Don’t skip your checkups. Don’t assume it could never be you. Know your numbers. Know your family history. Advocate for yourself fiercely.
Being proactive isn’t fear — it’s wisdom.
When you support this campaign, you’re investing in research, education, and advocacy that saves lives every single day — helping more people prevent strokes, strengthen their hearts, and live out their God-given purpose.
Give if you’re able. Share this mission. And commit to protecting your own heart.
Because the greatest story isn’t surviving heart disease. It’s preventing it.
This year, I walk with deeper gratitude, stronger faith, and greater determination — for my family, for women everywhere, and for every heart still fighting to beat.
Will you walk with me?
