Why do I walk? I walk in honor of my mom, Ann Boyd, who lost her life to heart disease in 2016 at the age of 63. 

 

Losing our mom was devastating to me and my 3 siblings, and her 3 grandchildren, and we struggled with it. However, we decided to try and make a difference in her honor, and in 2017 I started this team, named NeeNee's HeartWalkers, to honor her grandma name of NeeNee. She loved life, she loved her children and grandchildren, and she would have loved participating in Heart Walk had she the chance. 

 

We have enjoyed fundraising and doing the walk the past 9 years, and we believe our involvement has been a good way to spread the word about heart disease, while also helping AHA make a positive impact all over the world. 

 

Below are some statistics and other info from AHA to further emphasize the need for continued support of AHA and their mission. 

 

9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed. But we can change this.

 

Cardiac arrests happen at work, in homes, on athletic fields and in neighborhoods everywhere, and the readiness of our community can be the difference between life and death.

 

It's time to unite, take action, and save lives. Every walker who joins, every dollar donated, means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone.
