2026 CSRA Heart Walk
Hudson's Heart Warriors!
We haven’t posted much about Hudson’s story because frankly we understand that we are very lucky and for many others with a congenital heart defect that is not the case. We also see God’s hand throughout Hudson’s experience time and time again!
When I was 26 weeks pregnant with Hudson, we learned that he has a congenital heart defect of a ventricular septal defect. Basically, there’s a hole in his heart. We were referred out to a high risk doctor and pediatric cardiologist. There were lots of long tests, questions and appointments. Both confirmed the VSD, but felt we had good odds the this hole would close on its own.
When Hudson was born, they did additional testing in the hospital and confirmed the hole was still present at birth. It also presents as a heart murmur when listening which we had to tell our pediatrician. About a week after birth, Hudson had to have his 3rd echocardiogram and 2nd EKG at the cardiologists office. These visits are super long and hard for such a little guy! The hole is still present, but thankfully doesn’t cause Hudson any delay, he doesn’t have symptoms, etc. He is just like any other baby! We have to continue with routine visits to the cardiologists to monitor it until/if it closes.
God has been so faithful to us as we walked through this! It’s very emotional and scary to hear that something could be affecting your baby that you have no control over. We could see part of God’s plan in having us move prior to knowing to a community with a larger medical presence and more options than Statesboro, both my OB and our pediatrician attending our church and being able to pray with and for us, etc.
Hudson’s story could have been very different. We are so grateful for the research and technology available that we DIRECTLY BENEFITTED from! We will be walking for CHD (congenital heart defect) Awareness on March 27, 2026! We’re raising money to bring more resources, awareness, and benefits to other families who may walk through this and whose stories include multiple surgeries upon birth, feeding tubes, oxygen, etc. Please consider joining our team!!
