My story starts back in the summer of 1970. My mom's OBGYN was able to inform her that I was going to be born with a heart valve problem. That would mean that at some point I would be grown enough undergo open heart surgery. I was not thrilled about the idea so I decided to be born two weeks late.
Cut forward summer of 1975. I was four years old and ready for surgery. Two brilliant surgeons repaired my arterial valve and set me up for success. Although they did leave me with a scar the that went from my sternum to almost my belly button. I was here and I am going to stay here.
I am forever grateful to the AHA and the Red Cross.
Some of my friends have not been so lucky. My friends Terry and Julius both suffered strokes at far too young an age.
I walk to ensure that heart disease is identified and treated!
