On the morning of September 16, 2024, my life forever changed. I had suffered a stroke at the age of 31, and hadn't yet recognized the warning signs. My speech was slurred, my walk off balance. I couldn't close my mouth properly and it felt as if my tongue was too big for my mouth. For days prior, my vision had been blurred. I couldn't see with or without my glasses. After a misdiagnosis by an ER doctor at a Philadelphia hospital, I later learned I suffered several strokes. Strokes present differently in women, and symptoms are often downplayed in young people. My stroke was initially misdiagnosed as a migraine, but I am forever grateful for the doctor who listened to my concerns and properly diagnosed and provided me with the medical attention I needed. My family and friends have been my rock along my recovery journey. From speech therapy, to cognitive therapy and occupational therapy, I have learned to never take this one precious life for granted.
