This is such a meaningful way to give back to the community, educate others, raise awareness, and help save lives. This walk holds an especially deep and emotional meaning for me because I know firsthand how devastating it is to watch someone you love suddenly be affected by a stroke.
Five years ago, I was visiting my mom in the hospital while she was being treated for a heart condition. In a matter of seconds, everything changed. I watched my mom begin to show the classic signs of a stroke right before my eyes. I remember feeling completely terrified, helpless, and heartbroken as I watched someone I loved so deeply go through something so frightening. It is a moment I will never forget, and it remains one of the most painful experiences of my life. There is nothing that can prepare you for the fear of wondering if the person you love will be okay.
I lost my mom, aunt, grandmother, and manager to stroke, which makes participating in this walk incredibly personal and emotional for me. I walk in their memory and in honor of all the loved ones, family members, and friends whose lives have been impacted by stroke. I hope that by sharing my story, I can help others recognize the warning signs, understand the importance of acting quickly, and know that their actions could make a difference in saving someone they love.
I hope and pray that no one ever has to experience the pain of watching a loved one suffer through a stroke. But if that moment ever comes, I hope people will be prepared to recognize the signs and act quickly. Every second matters.
