In October 2019, my life changed forever when I underwent open heart surgery for a mitral valve repair. That experience gave me an appreciation for every heartbeat and a desire to give back to the community that made my recovery possible.
Walking in the 2026 American Heart Association Heart Walk is my way of honoring all surgical survivors, celebrating our shared resilience, and helping to fund the vital research that continues to push the boundaries of cardiac care.
I am especially proud, for every year of having my faithful companion, Honey, by my side. This will be our 6th heartwalk! Throughout the highs and lows of my surgery and the long road of recovery (surgically and personally) that followed, Honey was my absolute rock, providing unwavering support and comfort when I needed it most.
Walking with Honey is a tribute to that bond and a celebration of the strength we found in each other. And never something to take for granted as she grows older! We are walking to ensure that more heart patients have the chance to experience full, healthy lives with the people-and pets-they love.
