My personal why I am walking:
- I am walking in honor of Boney Jones Dasent, who is courageously living with pulmonary hypertension. Boney has been a joyous part of our family for the past 30 years. She is among the most caring, generous, and wise people I know. She teaches me patience & grace every day.
- I also am supporting the AHA Summer Undergraduate Research Experience, which bring undergraduate students from varied academic backgrounds to BU/BMC to conduct research.
I hope you will join me in giving to the AHA to support important research to improve population health.
Thank you in advance for your support!
The fundamental question is why? I have many whys:
- AHA spends the donors’ money wisely: Only 8% is spent on management, and 9% Fundraising.
- AHA funds are predominantly allocated to doing the work: 31% Public Health Education; 18% Research; 28% Professional Education & Training; 6% Community Service.
- AHA is the leading nongovernmental funder of research. Last year AHA funded ~ $155 million dollars in research.
- AHA is the first funder of many early career scientists.
- AHA is a leader in providing lifesaving public education, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- AHA has a profound commitment to eliminating health care disparities, including: targeted educational campaigns to vulnerable communities; funding health care disparities research, and researchers from under-represented racial and ethnic groups; advocating for policies and investments to address social inequity; and investing in community solutions to eliminate disparities.
