This is our beautiful daughter, Jayla. Like so many others we know and love, Jayla is the face of heart failure! Jayla was shockingly diagnosed with end stage heart failure on her 26th birthday a little over 2 years ago. We discovered Jayla was born with 2 different congenital heart conditions- left ventricle non-compaction cardiomyopathy and a left bundle branch blockage. Neither of these conditions could be surgically repaired, which meant Jayla needed a bi-ventricular pacemaker implanted as she was at high risk of "sudden cardiac death"-3 words no parent ever wants to hear about their child.
This November, Jayla will celebrate her 2 year "Pacer Anniversary" and, WOW, has she moved mountains during this time!! We are so happy to share that Jayla's heart function is near the normal range allowing her to lead not just a normal life, but an exceptional one!! She even helped to save one of her best friend's life using hands only CPR!!
The American Heart Association has been a great support not only to Jayla and our family, but to cardiology patients across the country. The resources and fundraising they do to help raise awareness and support advances create more survivors every day! The 90 second hands only CPR training is truly priceless-WATCH THE VIDEO-you never know when this 90 seconds could save a life! It is an honor and privilege to walk with her and other survivors on October 17th!!
