Walking with Oliver

Oliver was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), which means the left chamber of his heart is severely underdeveloped. Normally, this chamber is responsible for pumping oxygen-rich blood to the entire body, but because of his condition, his heart cannot pump normally.

To fix his heart's plumbing, Oliver requires a series of three staged open-heart surgeries: the Norwood procedure, the Glenn procedure, and the Fontan procedure. Our brave boy has already successfully completed his first surgery-the Norwood procedure-at Lurie Children's Hospital! Oliver is an absolute fighter and has already overcome so much, including a cardiac catheterization, an IR tunneled central line, ECMO support, and his chest closure.

As a family of huge Formula 1 fans, we like to say that Oliver is our superstar driver, and we are his dedicated Pit Crew! Just like in F1, a driver can't win the race alone-it takes an entire team working in perfect harmony. Right now, Oliver's next open-heart surgery is just a couple of months away. In the meantime, he receives continuous, everyday monitoring from Lurie's Single Ventricle Team, who are constantly checking his stats and keeping him running perfectly.

Beyond his medical team, we are his home pit crew-a family and a team dedicated to supporting him through every single lap of this journey.

We are walking and raising money for the American Heart Association because we want to fight toward curing congenital heart disease. Being a part of the Heart Walk means being a part of something much bigger than ourselves. It allows us to contribute to the heart community, support other families handling these same struggles, and fund the research that keeps heroes like Oliver moving forward.
