2026 Washington State Heart & Stroke Walk
SMMC Critical Care RT's
In a heartbeat, you could be the difference.
9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital don’t survive. Most of the time, it’s because no one nearby performed CPR. But together, we can change that.
Extraordinary things happen when people take action. A small step. A simple skill. A lifesaving moment. Heart Walk brings communities together to create health and hope for every heartbeat. Every walker who joins, every dollar donated, means more people trained in CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone.
My personal health journey has been defined by persistent challenges since contracting COVID-19, including recurring bouts of hypertension. This evolved into a heart block in my cardiac rhythm, leading to multiple emergency department visits for severe chest pain. During one critical admission to the Progressive Care Unit (PCU), the intensity of the pain necessitated a heart catheterization procedure. The diagnostic results revealed reduced flow in the small vessels of my heart—the underlying cause of my daily struggle. Now, even moderate increases in my heart rate can trigger significant discomfort. While my condition may seem minor compared to some, it remains a reality I navigate every day. I am privileged to understand the nature of my condition and to have the guidance necessary to manage my heart health effectively.
