In a heartbeat, Â you could be the difference.
9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital don't survive. Most of the time, it's because no one nearby performed CPR. But together, we can change that.
Extraordinary things happen when people take action. A small step. A simple skill. A lifesaving moment. Heart Walk brings communities together to create health and hope for every heartbeat. Every walker who joins, every dollar donated, means more people trained in CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone. Â
Extraordinary starts with YOU. Help me reach my goal today!
My 2 WHY's:
My wake up call 1st started in March 2001. I received a call that my 56 year old Mother suffered a heart attack after shoveling snow. She survived with a stent placement.Â
She was a longtime smoker, never a drinker, but she did not have the healthiest of eating habits. She stopped smoking the same day, started a low sodium, healthier diet, and tried to eliminate some of her stress.Â
Throughtout the years she has had several more heart attacks with the most recent being this past February. She has ALWAYS been a fighter and this time was no exception. She is 82 now and as time goes on, her pace may have gotten a little slower, but she still continues to Live her life.Â
My 2nd WHY:
July 19, 2023 I received a phone call from my husband telling me he "thinks" he's having a heart attack. I immediately tell him to call 911 but he's stubborn and drove himself to ER.
After an assessment, admission, and a cardiac cath, he was found to have 4 blockages and was scheduled for surgery. He ended up having a triple bypass as 1 blockage was apparently small.Â
My husband wasn't your typical heart patient as his cardiothoracic surgeon told him. He was Only 53. He walked miles weekly, went to the gym 5 days a week, but his diet and stress levels were Horrendous and his body finally told him so. After months of cardiac rehab, he was Finally on the road to recovery.Â
He now eats better (usually), still continues to walk whenever he can, and goes to the gym the same. He still hasn't gotten a handle on his stress levels as much as he should, but it's his choice.Â
We are All given 1 life and it's up to Us to make the Best of it!!Â
We have 2 Gorgeous and Amazing Grandsons that we want to watch grow up, so we will continue to Be better every single day...for Them..
Please consider donating to my Team for the AHA because as I learned the hard way, it can affect those you Love without your permission and the outcome isn't always a positive one.Â
