My son, Benny, is a 17-year-old senior, a starting varsity soccer player, and one of the strongest people I know. He lives with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), a condition that causes the heart muscle to become abnormally thick, making it harder for the heart to pump blood effectively.
Despite this diagnosis, he continues to live an active, inspiring life, pursuing his passion for soccer and embracing every opportunity that comes his way. His determination, resilience, and positive attitude remind me every day that HCM does not define him.
I'm participating in the Heart Walk in honor of my son Benny and to support the research that is helping people with heart disease live longer, healthier lives. I walk with hope that one day researchers will find a cure and develop ways to reverse the damage HCM can cause to the heart.
Every step I take is for my son, for every family affected by heart disease, and for a future filled with more answers, better treatments, and hope. â¤ï¸
