50th Anniversary of the Cincinnati Heart Mini-Marathon & Walk
Taylor's Story
9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed. But extraordinary things happen when people take action. Taylor’s story shows how a simple act of courage—performing bystander CPR—can make the difference between life and death.
When Taylor was a freshman at the University of Cincinnati, she went into cardiac arrest after a run on the treadmill. Taylor's heart stopped for 13 minutes, and after CPR and 4 shocks of an AED, she was finally brought back. "Each and every Rec staff member, EMT, and doctor did an exceptional job bringing me back to life and I will forever be grateful. After 2 weeks in the hospital, I was able to leave with an internal defibrillator/pacemaker, and many unknown answers as to why this happened. It’s still a mystery."

Today Taylor is doing great and ran the Heart Mini 5k with her son, husband and mom and then did the 5k walk with the rest of her family and friends!
