Our School is Heart Healthy!

Houston, Texas is so excited to have this year’s National Kids Heart Challenge Ambassador come right from our own community! Read a little about our Heart Hero’s story…

My name is Alexa, but I also go by Lexie. I am 8 years old. I live with my mommy but also stay with my daddy. I have a tiny soft dog named Ally Bear. My mommy says I have a special heart. I was born with a hole in my heart (and a missing pulmonary valve). I was born with a congenital heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot with Pulmonary Atresia. I have had two open heart surgeries to make my heart better. I had my first heart surgery at 1 year old. I just had another heart surgery last year! My condition has not slowed me down. I can do everything. My family was proud of me for being so brave during my surgeries. Now I can do everything again like running, jumping, gymnastics, PE, recess, and play with my friends. I feel amazing! I take aspirin every night for my special heart. I like to go fun places with my mommy, do gymnastics, play Minecraft, Monopoly, build with my Legos, play video games, and play with my cousins and friends. I wish other children with sick hearts could get better and stay brave like me. I want people to know that the American Heart Association will help kids with sick hearts to get better.

When you raise money during Kids Heart Challenge, you are helping kids just like Alexa!
