March 29, 2018, my mother was found deceased in her rocking chair at her home. After an autopsy was done, we learned that she passed away at the age of 69 due to Cardiovascular Disease. Although my mother had known Cardiac issues (had her first heart attack at the age of 36), she was not ever followed by a cardiologist. Perhaps my mother would be alive today if she could have gotten proper care for her heart. I walk in memory of her, and in hopes that the work from AHA can continue to help others become more aware of the importance of properly caring for our hearts.
