On 4/4/22, my dad had a heart attack that led him to go into cardiac arrest. My sister Madison walked past the front door and saw him collapse on the driveway. She immediately called 911 and started performing CPR until help arrived. My dad was put into a medically induced coma and was on a ventilator. It was extremely tough to see my strong and healthy dad like this in ICU and I could not process what was happening. The next morning, the doctors and nurses told us it was a miracle because he showed such early signs of cognitive ability. We were fortunate to get him off the ventilator within 24 hours and it was due to my sister’s quick actions. The doctors determined that his left anterior descending (LAD) artery was 80% blocked and his circumflex artery was 99% blocked and he had three stents put in and now his heart can effectively function. He is slowly recovering and doing well. My last name Engel means angel in German and we believe that Madison was his guardian angel that day. I am sharing my story because heart disease is the silent killer and this situation happens too often and unfortunately most people do not have my family’s happy ending.  I urge all of you and your loved ones to get routinely checked and to get certified in CPR as it is lifesaving.
