20 years ago this month, I lost my Dad, Rusty, to Heart Disease. He was 53 years old and his sudden death caught us all by surprise. Dad was a wonderful husband and father, a great friend, a successful businessman and still active in the Army Reserves. He was a joker and an avid Alabama football fan who also enjoyed fishing and traveling. He had great pride for his hometown of Tuscaloosa and the University of Alabama. He was looking forward to my upcoming wedding when a massive heart attack took him from all of us.
I am going to join all my coworkers at Methodist University Hospital to walk in memory of my Dad. I walk because I know that with every step, I'm making a difference in someone's life. And when combined with a million other Heart Walk Heroes across the nation, we have an even greater impact toward curing heart disease and stroke. Will you be a Heart Walk Hero and help remember my Dad with me?
