We Walk to Save Lives!
2022 Austin Heart & Stroke Walk
Kristin’s heart journey began in 2003 right after our second son was born. She was diagnosed with postpartum cardiomyopathy. Three years later she was in full congestive heart failure. On March 6, 2006 Kristin received a heart transplant.
For the past 16 years she has been the poster child for heart transplant. She never had any sign of rejection and quickly got down to the lowest dosage of anti-rejection drugs possible. Kristin wanted to honor the life of the 13 year old boy whose heart gave her a new life. She raised our two boys, volunteering in every activity they participated in. Her motto was to live life to the fullest, because you never know how long you have.
Early this year Kristin started experiencing shortness of breath. It turns out that, after 16 years with no issues, Kristin needed another heart transplant. Unfortunately she passed away before she could receive a new heart.
Even though Kristin didn’t make it, the research funded in part by the American Heart Association is responsible for extending her life for over 19 years. Those 19 years enabled her to raise our two sons, volunteer at church, school, sports and TOSA. In the 3 months since her passing, I’ve heard so many stories of the lives she touched. This is why I support the Austin Heart Walk. My hope is that one day we will be able to eradicate heart disease so others won’t go through what Kristin went through.
