Why We Walk

Want to help save lives while walking or running alongside one of the greatest runners of our time? Now’s your chance.

Join decorated runner, Olympian and Marathon-winner, Meb Keflezighi a.k.a. “Marathon Meb,” for the American Heart Association’s San Diego Heart & Stroke Walk – sponsored locally by National University.

Meb will join Dr. Michael R. Cunningham, who is National University System Chancellor and Chair of the San Diego Heart Walk, as well as National University President Dr. David W. Andrews, NU faculty and staff, and NU students for a day full of fun and philanthropy on September 21 in Balboa Park.

A past National University Commencement speaker, Meb is also a recipient of an honorary National University degree and long-standing supporter of NU who is committed to promoting youth health, education and fitness.

Join Meb and the National University team for a chance to go the distance on behalf of the AHA’s efforts to support cardiovascular medical research, healthy living and saving lives!

About Meb Keflezighi

Widely acclaimed as one of the greatest runners of our time, Meb Keflezighi brings a higher meaning to “going the distance.” From his arrival in America as a refugee from war-torn East Africa, to his victorious finish at the emotionally charged 2014 Boston Marathon—as a proud and patriotic American—Meb has secured not only his place in history, but also in the hearts and minds of millions.

Meb is the only athlete in history to win the New York Marathon, the Boston Marathon and an Olympic Medal. A past National University Commencement speaker, recipient of an honorary National University degree, and graduate of the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), his record also includes four NCAA championships, 23 National Championships and a place on three United States Olympic teams. He oversees the MEB (Maintaining Excellent Balance) Foundation, which is committed to promoting youth health, education and fitness.
