I have so many reasons why I support the American Heart Association- but my main "Why" is my family. I never had the opportunity to meet my grandfather on my mom's side because he passed away of a sudden heart attack in his early 50s. I have heard so many amazing stories of him being a great father, husband & friend. However, there isn't much of a "story" behind his passing-- it was unexpected & sudden. It kills me thinking about such a wonderful man leaving this earth suddenly, without saying goodbye to anyone. Unfortunately, his story is not uncommon. Heart disease is our nation's #1 killer, stealing the lives of loved ones every day. The American Heart Association is funding more research in heart disease and stroke than any other organization besides the federal government, and your donation could help fund the next breakthrough in research!
On a happier note, I have personally benefited from the work of the American Heart Association. In 1957, the first pacemaker was implanted which was developed by a research grant funded by the AHA. Because that grant was funded, I have been able to spend countless hours laughing, cooking & learning from my "Mammaw" who has been living with a pacemaker as a long as I can remember. I cherish the moments I have got to spend with her and feel so blessed that she has been there for all of life's milestones. That is why I am stepping up to help support the American Heart Association's mission: to be a relentless force towards a world of longer, healthier lives.
