Heart disease has had a major impact on our family. My maternal grandfather, Dr. Charles Hoard ("Happy Doc") died of congestive heart failure in 1991. Then we lost my husband's mother Barb ("Gama") to congestive heart failure in 2019. My mother Susan ("Gaga"), for whom I am primary caregiver, suffers from heart disease today.
