3 years ago Levi was struck by lightning while we were in our boat in Tampa Bay. It's hard to believe it has already been 3 years because at times it feels like it was just yesterday. I thank God my whole family is here with me today because I knew CPR.
CPR is the reason my son is here today, and now Levi, who has recently been trained in CPR, has the skills that can help save another person's life.
Shortly after Levi was struck, I was talking to a reporter who basically said to me "Wow. It's really just so amazing that you knew CPR and you knew what to do." Then he asked me a question that really impacted me. He said "Could you imagine being in that situation ... your child's heart stops right in front of you. They aren't breathing, and you don't know what to do? You don't know how to help this person you love? Can you IMAGINE being in that situation?" I have to say, I can't imagine it. I don't WANT to imagine it. We HAVE to get more people trained in CPR, and your support of the American Heart Association can help turn us into a community of LIFESAVERS. No one should feel unprepared in a cardiac emergency, and no one should have to worry about not receiving timely CPR when they need it.
9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed. But we can change this.
Every walker who joins, every dollar donated, means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone.
I Walk to Save Lives. Help me reach my goal today by joining our team or donating towards our goal. Together, we can turn bystanders into lifesavers.
