I walk because I know that with every step, I am saving lives.
It all started with me in December of 2000, I was 35 years old. I was at work and climbing an 8 foot step ladder to look at a malfunctioning exhaust system. I was out of breath by the time I reached the top of the ladder, and could not continue working, I climbed back down not feeling well, and still could not catch my breath, had excrusiating pain in my chest, neck and left arm. My boss at the time called 911, I was rushed to the hospital with heart attack symtoms.
One day later I was being prepped for surgery, and had four cardiac bypasses. The quick reasponse of my boss, and the aid of the various medical teams that worked on and with me to assist in my recovery, I will be forever grateful.
Since that eye-opening day in December of 2000 I have had a few other scares, and it is because of the awareness that I have learned through the American Red Cross that has provided me with the proper tools to properly react to these types of situations.
Twenty three years later I am able to enjoy a normal healthy life with my wife, my son, daughter and grandchildren. I'm an avid motorcycle rider and thoroughly enjoy my career working in the power industry. I am able to continue all of this due to continuing research and development.
