2025 Tampa Bay Heart Walk
Watts Up for Hearts
Join us for the 2025 Heart Walk! I have TWO whys this year!?
1) My coworker Kim's husband, Marty, recently had a life-saving experience thanks to quick action and modern technology. Marty had a heart attack but showed no typical symptoms. Thanks to their dog?s intuition and a trip to the ER, Marty received the care he needed just in time. Now, Marty is on the road to recovery, and we?re walking to support him and raise awareness for heart health.
2) John Currier, another coworker explains:
?I?m a cardiovascular disease survivor that had double coronary bypass surgery in July 2019. Since my life-changing surgery, I?ve consistently practiced many healthy lifestyle changes such as diet, managing stress and exercise.
?The biggest change is exercise. About a month after my surgery, while I was still in rehabilitation, I began my brisk walking regimen. On Sunday, Aug. 24 (my birthday) I celebrated six years of consecutive daily walks of five miles minimum every day. That?s 2,200 days in a row where I walked 12,000 steps. No matter the events of the day, weather, traveling, work schedules or any other obstacle, I find the time to get my steps in. My actual daily average is 25,000 steps, or 11.25 miles per day, which takes quite a time commitment. I?ve now walked enough steps (55,000,000) to figuratively circle the earth! And I?m committed to add to my daily record streak for as long as I can.
?This is all great but why? I once read where a doctor said that walking is the closest thing to the perfect medicine. Walking provides me with many benefits such as: I feel good and energetic, my weight is under control, cholesterol levels are healthy, blood pressure is ideal. My cardiologist is pleased with the results and loves my walking stories.?
