I did my first Heart Walk in 2019 after my little course correction in life and didn't know much about the event. It's primarily a fundraiser for the American Heart Association. But for those of us wearing a red ballcap (heart disease survivor) or a white ballcap (stroke survivor), being there meant so much more. You get to see the community as a whole. And yep, there's lots of free swag from different healthcare organizations, fun stuff for the kiddos, and the usual array of free fruit, snacks, etc. from all of the health orgs that are participating.
One of the interesting things about the Heart Walk is seeing the range of people impacted by heart disease and strokes. Younger or older, black or white or purple or green or no hair at all, tall folks or those of us blessed with shortness, and anything in-between.
Is the Heart Walk pet friendly? Sure seems to be! Our local event is at Victory Field in Indianapolis. While I've not seen anything specifically saying that pets are allowed or not, I've been to this event in the past at Victory Field and I did see lots of folks with doggos at the event.
If you want to see for yourself just how many people are impacted by this, take a walk on Saturday, September 20. You're going to see a lot of folks with snazzy red and white ballcaps. And you're going to see a lot of people walking with them, in support. Some folks walk in memory of loved ones they've lost. They're out there for the same reason we all are: to raise awareness, raise a little money for the AHA, and show support for everyone in the community impacted by heart disease and strokes.
No pressure from me on any of this. If you wanna donate a few dollars to a good cause, that's cool. If you wanna take a walk on September 210 that's cool. I'm just wanting to raise awareness on how many folks are impacted by heart disease and stroke complications and provide one way you can help those impacted by heart disease and strokes. I'll be there on September 20, wearing my snazzy ballcap.
