Why I Walk
I have participated in the Richmond Heart Walk for 20+ years. I always walked in honor of my Dad who had a heart attack and quadruple bypass over 30 years ago. He is a survivor and just turned 89 in September! My brother also had triple bypass surgery in May of 2022.
For the last four years, I have been walking with another purpose. As most of you know, I lost the love of my life, my husband, Rudy Downey, to a massive heart attack on July 19, 2020. In 2020, I created a new team - Rudy’s Motley Crew.
I walk in honor of my dad, brother and late husband Rudy, because I know that with every step, I’m making a difference in someone’s life. And when combined with a million other Heart Walk Heroes across the nation, we have an even greater impact toward curing heart disease and stroke.
