Last year, on the day before I was scheduled to leave on a golf trip with friends, I received the unfortunate news that I would need open heart surgery. I was so lucky - they had been monitoring my heart defect since birth, so the surgery could be planned (quickly) and I was fortunate to get scheduled with an amazing surgeon/hospital. The picture above was taken with my son on the day I was released from Johns Hopkins.
I am more than 1 year clear from the surgery and proud to report that I'm back to 100% - fully living, working, exercising, playing golf/tennis, and cheering loudly at my son's baseball games!
One of the many things I learned through my experience is that we are all tied to heart disease and stroke in some way. This year, as we celebrate the Centennial of the American Heart Association, my family and I will again go to the National Mall in Washington DC on November 2nd to participate in the Heart Walk. I am also asking for donations to fund groundbreaking research that literally keeps hearts beating and helps people have longer, healthier lives.
Thank you for your consideration as we continue the critical work of eliminating heart disease and stroke.
