This is my 11th year participating in the Heart Walk. And what a wild year it's been! As we enter into a new normal, I'm continually reminded of what really matters: our families, our friends, and OUR HEALTH.
That's why I'm asking for your support of the Heart Walk.
“But why?” You may ask. Over the past year, the coronavirus pandemic has turned the world upside down. And while it may seem like heart disease and stroke are lower priorities during this time, I’m here to tell you that they are not.
First of all, even with COVID-19, heart disease will again be the number one killer of Americans this year. Cardiovascular disease accounted for 859,125 deaths in the US in 2017. That’s over 16,500 deaths a week, higher than the current ~14,000 US deaths per week from COVID-19.
Secondly, COVID-19 and heart disease are connected. Heart disease and stroke survivors have a higher risk of contracting and dying from COVID-19.
Last but not least, the AHA is very active in the fight against COVID-19.
For all of these reasons, I'm asking you to support me in my goal to raise $5,000 for the AHA. Thank you and be well!
