The Heart and Stroke Walk became personal for me several years ago when my Mom had a stroke.
My parents love the outdoors and had left in the morning to go to Mount Rainier National Park.
A few hours later, my dad called me at work; my Mom had collapsed and was unresponsive. Fortunately, he was able to have her medically evacuated for emergency treatment and we live in a state where there is state-of-the-art treatment for stroke.
The doctors performed a very complex surgery where they were able to insert a wire coil at the hemorrhage site to stop the bleeding in her brain. My Mom then spent weeks in the hospital intensive care unit, with nurses and the specialists to oversee her care. She has since fully recovered, was able to return work, and is now enjoying retirement.
I am profoundly grateful for the treatment that she received. My Mom was saved due to the research funded by the American Heart Association.
There are other moms, dads, and loved ones that I want to ensure can be saved as well. With your donation, we can help to save lives. Thank you for joining me.
