Life is Why! Join me in supporting the American Heart Association!
My Mom and i participate in the Heart Walk every year to honor my big brother Arthur Mahoney who we suddenly lost just 12 short years ago at the tragically young age of 36 to severe coronary artery disease. We do this to honor Arthur and also to help raise money and awareness to fund research and education in hopes that we can make a difference in other families lives so they don't have to go through what we go through every day not having our Arthur here.
Mom and i also do the Heart Walk to celebrate the life saved of my other big brother Adam Mahoney who was just 37 years old 8 years ago when he was rushed in for emergency surgery after getting the scary results back from his CT angiogram. They put stents in him and put him on various medications to help keep his coronary arteries clean and his heart safe. They saved his life. Arthur saved his life. Awareness saved his life. I am SO grateful. Adam and his wife Erin now have a beautiful & healthy 6 year old son!! :)
Yet another tragic event occurred in my family in the dead of winter of 2019 when Washington state had the big snowstorm. Another loved one to walk for now. My dear sweet Auntie Barbara was taken from me by heart disease too young. She had type 2 diabetes and had just been diagnosed with lymphoma in November and actually was doing a lot better with the chemotherapy but 1 week after her birthday in February of 2019 it was a heart attack that took her life. I found her in the snow. She was just barely 74 years old, my Mom's fraternal twin. We were very close.
I am registering for the Puget Sound heart walk for the 12th year in a row now. But now I am registering alone. June 2021 I lost my dear sweet Mom to hyperthermia. She was only 76 years old. I truly believe that not only the depression and isolation from the pandemic made her vulnerable but also upon death I discovered that she had severe heart disease. I truly believe this made her more vulnerable to the 118° weather we had that summer. I just want to inform everyone to please please please be sure to look after vulnerable people when it's hot out like that. It could save their life. I miss her so much it's physically painful. She was my best friend. When she died a part of me died too.
I'm not just walking, I'm heartwalking :) My participation in Heart Walk promotes fun ways to be physically active and make healthier choices every day. Imagine the impact if we reduce death and disability from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20 percent by 2020!! Please help me reach this lifesaving goal by donating today. Together, we can make healthier, longer lives possible for everyone.
Thank you in advance for your support!
