I am excited to share that I have agreed to be co-chair of the 2024 Heart Walk! I know, immediately – and fairly – you are asking whether I have lost my mind to do this. So I will share the reasons I said yes.
- My granddad. He was my first hero. In 2010, my 85-year-old granddad found out he had to undergo quintuple bypass surgery. He was a retired doctor, very physically active and had my grandmother to care for. Thanks to the American Heart Association’s funding and advocating for breakthroughs in heart health through the years, my grandad was able to live another 14 years! He was able to see two more of my children born, and all of my kids were able to have deep relationships and treasured memories with him.
- This year is the centennial celebration of American Heart Association. Since June 10, 1924, the Heart has made bold moves to save lives, pioneer scientific discoveries and advance access to quality care for all Americans.
- This is one way I can help carry the memory of my friend Kayla Fox forward. Kayla was the local executive director for Heart and a vibrant soul. She loved the walk and how it raises awareness and funding for critical research and services.
- Lastly, Heart wants to create a nation of lifesavers by increasing CPR readiness. By helping put more plans in place so people know what to do and how to act in a heart crisis, we will save lives.
Have a heart and help me reach my goal today!
