Our family has become very passionate about heart health over the past 3+ years as heart disease has personally impacted our family and we hope to advocate for a world free of heart disease. We are participating in the 2024 American Heart Association's Austin Heart & Stroke walk and hope you will consider supporting their amazing mission!
Our Story
Luke (the cute little guy in the picture above & our son) had a unique path to his diagnosis as it was a little longer than most babies as nothing was discovered on his fetal echo, at birth or in the first 6 months of his life. After changing pediatricians, at Luke's 9 month check-up his pediatrician heard a heart murmer. Soon thereafter, he was diagnosed with severe coarctation of the aorta. Luke underwent successful heart surgery in August 2021 with the amazing team at Texas Center for Pediatric & Congenital Heart Disease.
One of the things most heart families know is that getting through diagnosis and surgery is one thing, but seeing your child (or family member) for the first time post-surgery is one of the most difficult parts and something that stays with you. We are beyond grateful to the doctors, nurses, and hospital staff at Dell Children's who took care of our little heart warrior as well as all of the resources, research and support from American Heart Association!
Luke will continue to have regular annual check-ups and may need intervention later in life, but for now he is a happy 4-year old who loves swimming, dinosaurs, playing with trucks, and being outdoors.
Have a heart and help me reach my goal today!
