Join Us in Making a Difference at the Lowcountry Heart Walk!
Dear Friends and Supporters,
I am honored to share that I have been selected as the Chair of this year's Lowcountry Heart Walk. This opportunity deepens my commitment to making a meaningful impact and highlights the importance of our collective efforts. I’m passionate about the Lowcountry Heart Walk because I’ve witnessed firsthand the difference it makes.
I want to share a personal story of resilience and hope...
At 25 weeks into my wife Jamie's pregnancy, we received life-altering news: our son, Ricky, was diagnosed with a severe congenital heart defect (CHD). Since then, our journey has involved countless tests, scans, and procedures, guided by the incredible Cardiology Teams at MUSC's Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital. Ricky’s strength inspires us every day, and the love and support from our families have been our lifeline. The dedicated care teams at MUSC and Boston Children's have been our pillars of support, providing Ricky with life-saving procedures, including open-heart surgery at just eight months old.
While this journey has been daunting, it has instilled in us a profound gratitude for medical advancements and the relentless dedication of healthcare professionals. Their commitment to improving outcomes and fostering innovation has given Ricky a chance at a long, healthy life.
A congenital heart defect diagnosis can be devastating for new parents, but thanks to generous support for research and treatment, there is hope.
This hope drives our fundraising campaign.
I’m proud to announce that MUSC Rehabilitation Hospital in Charleston has been chosen as a main sponsor for the 2025 American Heart Association Lowcountry Heart Walk. This event is vital in raising funds that empower the AHA to work with researchers, medical experts, community leaders, businesses, and families to enhance cardiac health and raise awareness of available resources in our community.
According to The Children's Heart Foundation, about 25% of babies born with a congenital heart defect, like Ricky, need surgery or other interventions in their first year to survive. By supporting the Lowcountry Heart Walk, we aim to raise awareness and funds that will improve treatment options, boost survival rates, and enhance the quality of life for CHD families.
I invite you to join us in making a difference. Your contribution, no matter how small, can have a profound impact on families like ours.
Even a $1 donation can spark positive change and offer hope to parents facing the challenges of a CHD diagnosis. Please consider supporting this important cause. Together, we can create a brighter, healthier future for families affected by CHD. Thank you for your time, consideration, and compassion.
