This will be my 25th year walking and helping to raise money for the American Heart Association!!
To commemorate the anniversary I am asking any and all of my American Legion Family in the Lexington and close surrounding areas to join me in the walk. I’ve started an American Legion Family team to help coordinate and answer any questions anyone new may have. I hope anyone that can join will!
Heart disease is still the leading cause of death in the US. Many of its victims never even knew they had a problem, it’s often a silent killer.
Due to heart disease my father didn't get to join the military and be a veteran or live into his golden years to be a survivor. In his early 20's he tried to enlist in the US Army like many of his older brothers had done years before him, but due to the severity of his heart murmur they would not allow him to enlist. His heart never gave him another issue until 1996, when he was only 54 years old, we lost him. Heart disease was one of the two contributing factors that took him from us at that young age when I was only 19. Two years after losing my daddy, I participated in my first Heart Walk as a senior at Midway college. This year will be my 25th year participating, and I am going to see if I can rally all my American Legion Auxiliary 'sisters across the five Units/Posts in Fayette & Scott County, as well as the Legionnaires/Veterans, and the Sons of the Legionnaires to come out in rally in celebration of those that are surviving as I commemorate my 25th Heart Walk!
