Join #TeamElias for the Annual Heart Walk at Balboa Park on September 20th!
We’re walking in honor of our brave little heart warrior, Elias, and we’d love for you to walk with us. Funds raised through the Heart Walk support life-saving research, CPR training, and education to prevent and treat heart conditions.
This walk is incredibly personal to me—I'm a Heart Warrior momma, and I’ll be walking hand-in-hand with my Heart Warrior son, Elias.
At 22 weeks pregnant, we learned that our baby had a congenital heart defect. Elias was diagnosed with D-Transposition of the Great Arteries (D-TGA) and a very small Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). In D-TGA, the two main arteries that carry blood from the heart are switched, and the VSD is a small hole between the lower chambers of the heart. TGA requires open-heart surgery to switch the arteries back into their correct positions. Because Elias's VSD was so tiny, it was left alone and should close on its own over time.
At just a few days old, Elias underwent successful open-heart surgery to correct the TGA. Thanks to early detection, incredible medical technology, and a team of skilled doctors and nurses, we were prepared for his arrival and his journey.
Now we walk—for Elias and every child born with a heart condition.
