Walking for Every Heart — Especially the Youngest Ones
Hi, I'm Jaclyn Reider, and this year I’m walking not just as a supporter — but as a passionate advocate for preventing sudden cardiac arrest in youth.
As the Project ADAM Coordinator for Illinois and a proud member of the American Heart Association Chicago Metro Board of Directors, I’ve had the privilege of working on the front lines of heart health — in schools, in communities, and in policy spaces. I’ve also spent years volunteering with the AHA to push forward initiatives that truly save lives.
Why This Matters
Sudden cardiac arrest is the #1 cause of death on school campuses and a leading cause of death in youth athletes. It strikes fast, often without warning — but when communities are prepared, lives can be saved.
That’s why I’m so proud to support the collaborative efforts of Project ADAM and the American Heart Association — two national leaders in creating Heart Safe schools and empowering bystanders to take action.
Together, we've helped:
-
Pass legislation to require CPR training and increase AED access in schools
-
Ensure more schools have Cardiac Emergency Response Plans (CERPs)
-
Provide free resources and training to help schools earn Heart Safe designation
-
Promote Hands-Only CPR education, equipping thousands with the skills to respond in an emergency
Why I Walk
I walk to honor the lives already saved by prepared schools and trained responders — and for those lives still depending on our continued work.
This mission is deeply personal to me, and your support helps fuel programs, training, advocacy, and awareness that change outcomes for children and families across the country.
Please consider donating, joining my team, or simply helping spread the word. Because every school should be Heart Safe — and every second truly counts.
