Why I Walk for heart health...
Like so many others whose lives have been impacted by heart disease, I've also been closely touched. My mom died of a sudden heart attack on Valentine's Day 2010. My dad suffered a traumatic cardio event - falling unconscious and without a pulse while umpiring a youth baseball game many years ago, but are blessed to have recently celebrated his 15th "bonus" year from that faitful day thanks to the heroic efforts of a parent who came from the grandstands and performed CPR until emergency medical support arrived. And, earlier just this year I, myself, was diagnosed with coronary artery disease. It was during a routine medical procedure when my doctor identified frequent PVCs on my EKG. To my surprise, I had no physical signs that they existed. And after many tests and work-ups to determine a prognosis, my cardio team determined calcification in walls of my blood vessels. Grateful for now knowing! And am now benefitting from a good medical plan with my cardiologist which includes healthier living, heart healthy diet & exercise and meds - and we're winning!
Healthier living can begin with an activity as simple as taking a walk! And I know I'm making a difference in the lives of others by participating in the Akron Heart Walk this Saturday, September 10th in downtown Akron, OH.
But it's not just my efforts alone that will one day help us see a world free of heart disease and stroke. I am walking with a team of heart heros because together, we will have an even greater impact.
Please help us change the world, one step at a time, by donating to my fundraiser! Any amount is a difference maker: $1, $5, $10, or more makes a huge impact! No amount is too small.
