I walk for my younger brother, Kevin. He was born with congenital heart disease, complete heart block, heterotaxy syndrome, and several other heart issues. Kevin's doctors at the Cleveland Clinic said he is a true miracle and there is no medical explanation of how he survived the pregnancy. Kevin had his first open heart surgery at just 6 days old. Since then, he has had two other open heart surgeries and numerous surgeries to replace his pacemaker.
Kevin had his third open surgery in October 2023, unfortantely there were many complications. He went into cardiac arrest twice and was placed on life support. Within two weeks Kevin needed two more open heart surgeries to address further damage to his heart. He was sedated for 5 weeks to allow his heart and other organs to recover. Kevin now has a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) to support his heart until it recovers or until he needs a transplant. He is working towards getting better every single day.
He's a true fighter and has been through so much in his 21 years. I'm lucky to call him my brother and best friend.
The continued research and technology has helped keep my brother alive. Kevin would not be here today without the research and technology it took to create the LVAD and pacemaker. Your donation will fund groundbreaking research that literally keeps hearts beating and helps people have longer, healthier lives.
Have a heart and help me reach my goal today.
